ISS co-founder inducted into Georgia Technology Hall of Fame

Thomas Noonan, general manager of IBM's Internet Security Systems division (www.iss.net), has been inducted into the Technology Hall of Fame of Georgia (www.atdc.org/ techhalloffame/ about.htm).

"My colleagues and I have worked tirelessly for the past 12 years to make our company the most trusted brand for enterprise security in the world," Noonan said. "It is gratifying for all of us to see that a respected organization like the Technology Hall of Fame is validating our accomplishments."

Along with founder Chris Klaus, Noonan launched Atlanta-based Internet Security Systems (ISS) in 1994. Under his leadership as president and CEO of the company, ISS revenue soared to nearly $330 million dollars in its first decade. At the time of IBM's acquisition of ISS on Oct. 20, the company had grown to 1,300 employees in more than 35 offices in 20 countries worldwide.

In 2002, President Bush appointed Noonan to serve on the National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC), a homeland defense initiative that protects information systems that are critical to the nation's infrastructure. In this role, Noonan has advised the government on cyber security issues. In July 2006, he addressed a subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs to encourage a more collaborative environment between government and private sector to jointly answer issues relating to the nation's critical networked infrastructure.

In addition to his relationship with the U.S. government, Noonan is also well-respected among the security and technology industries, having delivered keynote addresses at both the RSA Conference in San Jose and Interop Las Vegas in 2006. Additionally, Noonan serves on the board of the Cyber Security Industry Alliance (CSIA), a non-profit corporate membership organization whose mission is to improve cyber security through public policy initiatives, public sector partnerships, corporate outreach and public education. He was also recently elected to the National Board of Directors for the American Electronics Association (AeA), whose mission is to serve as "the voice of the American high-tech community." ENS
