In a recently published report, Forrester Research recognizes the Unisys OASIS framework from Unisys Corporation as a significant breakthrough in deployment of open source software for enterprise computing.
The Forrester report, Unisys Pioneers the Right Model for Open Source Services,", July 2006, was authored by analyst Julie Giera with Tom Pohlmann and Ronald J. Furstoss.
"For the first time," the report states, "a leading services vendor has created a fully integrated services offering around a predefined stack of open source components."
It offers a positive evaluation of the major expansion by Unisys of its open source capabilities through Unisys OASIS (Open and Secure Integrated Solutions), an integrated, certified set of software suites, complementary solutions and platforms targeted specifically for enterprise class computing based on open standards and fully supported through Unisys global services and vertical-industry solutions capabilities.
Citing Unisys "great technical skills, years of experience, good prices, and top-notch global services" as key differentiators, the report says, "with the OASIS set of services offerings, Unisys steps ahead of most competitors in open source services by offering customers a robust suite of services at great prices and with strong service-level agreements (SLAs)."
"Unisys is pleased that Forrester Research has recognized how our disciplined approach to open source solutions translates into industry leadership that significantly benefits customers," said Anthony Gold, vice president and general manager for the Open Source Business at Unisys. "By applying best practices in services to carefully selected open source software stacks, Unisys provides solutions that are more flexible and less expensive to manage and support."
Ali Shadman, vice president and general manager of Open Source Solutions in Systems and Technology at Unisys, said that Unisys intends to build on the value that Forrester has noted. "We plan to continue refining the Unisys OASIS offering to extend the benefits customers realize from enterprise computing based on open source software and open standards," Shadman said.
