ProCurve Networking by HP (www.hp.com) has announced new products that deliver a unified wired and wireless network.
The ProCurve 5300xl Wireless Edge Services Module with coordinated ProCurve Radio Ports and the ProCurve Access Point 530 deliver operational efficiency and consistent functionality and security across all sizes of networks.
The new products include built-in support for the complete ProCurve Manager networking management suite, enabling network administrators to centrally set and enforce security access control policies and configure wired and wireless devices for their entire network via a single pane of glass.
"Our customers are telling us that they need to reduce the complexity and operational expenses typically associated with wireless networks," said John McHugh, vice president and general manager at ProCurve Networking by HP. "We are providing them with the products and solutions to accomplish that mission."
The products extend ProCurve's Adaptive EDGE Architecture strategy with the next level of WLAN/LAN management and access control.
Pim Bilderbeek, vice president of communications consulting at analyst firm IDC, said the market is clearly primed for mainstream wireless applications. "With this new set of mobility solutions and the message of unified access control, along with ProCurve's strong presence in the LAN switch market, the company is well-positioned for growth in the mobility marketplace."
The ProCurve Wireless Edge Services xl Module seamlessly integrates advanced wireless services into the ProCurve Switch 5300xl series. Working in conjunction with new single- and dual-radio ports (210, 220, 230), the module enables secure, wireless network access control, centralized RF management, web authentication, fast wireless client roaming, quality of service (QoS) capabilities, self-network healing and rogue access point detection.
The ProCurve Access Point 530 is a secure, dual-radio standalone access point that protects a company's network and assets from unauthorized access. It delivers a comprehensive range of industry-proven security and QoS capabilities that integrate easily into most any network design and works well in situations where companies have multiple remote offices.
ProCurve Access Point 530 also features the benefit of built-in support from ProCurve's Identity Driven Manager access control software that enables edge-enforced, per-user, identity-driven access control lists (ACLs) for highly granular and flexible security. Additionally, in the event of a WAN link failure, the Access Point 530 features built-in RADIUS services to keep a remote site up and running.
